Spain: San Pedro

San Pedro de Alcántara (pop: approx 26,500) lies on the main Costa del Sol. It is situated in the fertile plain of the same name, Vega de San Pedro Alcántara, a broad stretch of coastal lowland surrounded in a semicircle by rugged hills.

San Pedro de Alcántara is in an ideal situation, just 10 kilometres west from all the glitz and glamour of Marbella, yet just a few minutes drive away from the natural beauty of the Sierra de Ronda mountain range and 20 km from the town of Estepona.
An ancient farming community, once famous for sugar cane, today San Pedro is a refreshingly unspoilt pueblo with an appeal all of its own.
A pleasant walk is from the centre of town to the beachfront along the Avenida del Marques del Duero which is a particularly attractive wide avenue flanked by palm trees. And the modern wide promenade is ideal for continuing your stroll (or skateboarding!) with several excellent chiringuitos (beachside restaurants) specialising in fish dishes. Visit Bora Bora if only for a drink at the bar. It is one of the best beach clubs on the coast, with a superb restaurant and all the usual beach facilities, a tropical paradise.

Today we woke up to a clowdy day.... we had a lazy morning and didn't leave the house til afternoon.  We drove to San Pedro Corniche to go for a walk.  Then suddenly it started raining heavily and there was lightning.... we had to take refuge under a palm tree... very funny.

Elephant on the beach????  in Spain????

After the downpour finished we drove back into San Pedro village and wondered round the shops.  What better way to spend a rainy day but shopping!  I found some nice and cheaply priced dresses and skirts (had been looking all over Germany, and couldn't find any)... I was very happy.

San Pedro is a lovely little town... not touristy at all.  People speak Spanish not English. It was funny, I had to translate for Jenni - was fun using my extremely little Spanish, plus I learned a few new words!

We found a local coffee shop - we had an excellent Spanish coffee and cakes.  When it came to pay, we communicated with Spanish and sign language.... The lady said 5 Euro - I tried to make her understand that I would pay for both of us.... but turned out that the total bill for 2 coffees and 2 cakes was 5 Euro!  Wow.... how cheap is this!  We will come again.  We have to try the churroz..... I am introducing Jenni to all the local Spanish delicatess.  I am having so much fun!

In the evening we went to the local Irish Pub (of course where else...) to have fish & chips....  my idea.  Oh well, when in Spain.....

Hopefully tomorrow will be a sunny day again.....
