Khartoum: Day 4

Home sweet home....

There were always a few birds around.... so nice to hear their twitter....

The airconditioning montage is quite amazing.... a bit scary really....

Likewise the electric wire system is creative to say the least....

Today we were supposed to go out with Ahsan to the suq, but she hasn't got her driver.  Here in Khartoum the problem is, you need a car and drive or have a driver....and need to know your way around town.

There is public transport, ie. buses and tuktuks and amjads, but it is just easier to have a driver who knows his way.  There are no addresses, and the residential areas have no proper roads, but are dirt tracks mainly.  And the whole of Khartoum is huge....

Also Mahassin is not very mobile because of her leg, and we need someone to know where we are going, so the easier solution the better. Hence we spend our time waiting for someone who is kind enough to take us out and around....

Later in the day, Ahsan and Faraa (her daughter in law) are paying us a visit and also Souad and Bukhari (Mahassin's brother and wife) come by.  It is so nice to see everyone again!  They are all so very nice people, very caring, and extremely helpful!

Sumaya, the neighbour, comes visit us almost every day - and she brings us food... not that we don't have enough ... Mahassin wants to feed me constantly.... but I can't eat that much!  Even though I love the food here!

I do get upset a bit, as I miss Hisham a lot.... he should be here with me showing me around.  Oh would we have some fun !  We would do all the really local things and visit the local places....  I can feel his energy throughout my stay in Khartoum....  In spirit he is looking after me and he is organizing my visit from the other side.... bless him!

Walid takes us for a drive in the early evening, after work, which is very nice of him.  Then - thanks Hisham - Walid takes us down to the Nile corniche, where people are walking, having picnics, and sitting drinking tea and coffee - there are a lot of 'buna ladies' - the 'coffee ladies' set up with their little stalls selling Sudanese tea and coffee.  Hamdullilah... this is soooo nice!

Bunn is the local coffee, boiled in a tin can with ginger and spices and served in a little round pot, taken with sugar.

The corniche at night....

A nice ending to a beautiful day.
