Ahsan and Faraa take Mahassin and myself to a nice coffee shop for breakfast! It's an Italian place, Barista, but the waiters are from Ethiopia.... However, dear Mahassin is determined to practise her Italian on them....We finally ordered our food in English...
After the breakfast Ahsan takes us for a drive to the fruit and vegetable market. It's a drive-through place. We stop at the different stalls to buy what we need - but we do not leave the car....luxury plus.
The rakshas waiting for business.... |
The food looks so yummie and colourful... it tastes great too! |
After our little excersion we go back to Ahsan's place for lunch. She always puts on a feast... she says we'll only have a couple of dishes, but she puts on at least 6 or 7 yummie dishes.
Her daughter Hala just had a baby - Mashallah - so cute! We sit eat and talk and play with the children... it is so nice....
Then we get a call from Souad to say that she will take us to a wedding, where the bride will dance. How exciting... So Mahassin and I go home to change and freshen up ready to go for another experience....
At a bridal dance party, only women are invited. There is even female police present... and anyone trying to take a photo of the dancing bride will get into trouble! Because when the bride dances, she only wears mini: knees, and arms and cleavage showing, which is haram - no men only her husband is supposed to see that. And apparently there were incidents in the past where such pictures of dancing brides made their way onto the internet....So hence the moral police is there to watch out! And there is a curfew - I think midnight the party has to end...
There was four of us.... the place was beaming with ladies, all nice and colourful dressed up. I discovered a new thoab fashion, where they wrap the thoab around their hips.... hence only half the material is needed. Nice!
The bride arrived with her groom (the only man allowed!!!), over the course of the evening she danced 3 times on a stage, each time she changed her dress. There was a life female band singing and playing. In between her dances, the ladies got up and danced. It was so nice to watch. I would have loved to get up and dance... Hisham did teach me the moves.... but somehow it did not feel right for me to dance and have a good time without Hisham.... I got quite upset and very sad... this trip was supposed to be a trip with Hisham..... but Hamdullilah... his family is looking after me!
There was another khawaja - the ladies got her up to dance... and everyone: look look a khawaja, she is dancing....
There was food and drink - in all a very nice experience. At the end, the bride and the groom went to sit on a stage, they sprinkled perfume on the guests and handed out little goodie bags... I think the perfume was for good luck. Now I was allowed to take photos... as the bride was dressed properly!
Mahassin was tired at the end of the evening - it was late of course... and the party was over... so we all went home again in the amjad.
Thanks Ahsan for a great day and Souad for an interesting evening!
This is the goodie bag we scored... perfume and incense... |
