Celje, Slovenia

Today is the 19 January 2012.... Hisham's Birthday.... he would have turned 52 years of age..... He only made it to his 50th Birthday on 19 January 2010!

But ...my life must go on.... and today we are going for a drive to Celje.... about 72 kms drive.

Celje is a typical Central European town and the third largest town in Slovenia. It is a regional center of Lower Styria. The town of Celje is located under Upper Celje Castle (407 m) at the confluence of the Savinja, Ložnica, and Voglajna rivers in the lower Savinja Valley. The Celje region is frequently shaken by minor earthquakes.

It is freezing cold again, but sunny!  We go for a nice walk along the river and around town....

And to warm up we are having a nice cup of coffee / cocoa at the Kuba Cafe....

In Slovenia you have the Creme Cafes, very yummie....

This hairdresser or 'Frizer' in Slovene, had some historic pictures posted... they looked a bit scary.... history of hairdressing in Slovenia...

On the drive back home, we passed quite a lot of those typical Slovenian colourful houses... fascinating....

There are also quite a few hops fields (for beer brewing) everywhere  (a bit like in Southern Germany where I am from...)

You can find all the German supermarket chains in Slovenia:

In the evening, Ken & Yvonne had another Slovene language lesson in Maribor, so off I went to experience some of the Cultural exhibitions in town....which turned out to be a bit bizzare... or maybe it's me....

Again, there was no address for the expo, not much signage, nobody there to direct you.... for being the Cultural City 2012... they totally lack  organizational and marketing skills!!!

And to round up the day... we went out for Pizza.... it was a bit like an American one.... very large, but strange... I ordered a vegetarian one... each quarter had a different veg on it... rather than being mixed.... well...different countries, different habits..... it was yummie anyway.
