The Costa del Sol "Sunny Coast" ) is a region in the south of Spain, in the autonomous community of Andalusia, comprising the coastal towns and communities along the Mediterranean coastline of the Málaga province. Formerly made up only of a series of small, quiet fishing settlements, the region has been completely transformed during the latter part of the 20th century into a tourist destination of world renown.
The Costa del Sol has been colonised and ruled by many cultures such as the Phoenicians, Greeks, Carthaginians, Romans, Vandals, Visigoths and Moors, before the Reconquista.
Historically its population lived in the fishing villages, and in the "white" villages a little distance inland, in the mountains running down to the coast. The area was discovered and developed to meet the demands of international tourism in the 1950s and has since been a popular destination for foreign tourists not only for its beaches but also for its local culture. The area is particularly famous for its towns like Marbella, which provides the Costa del Sol with its reputation for being a playground for its super-rich and famous visitors.
I arrived at Malaga airport... Jenni & Talal live next to San Pedro, and their second apartment is close to Estepona.....
Wednesday: We are having a lazy day, sleeping in, breakfast at home, and a nice long catch-up chat. The sun is shining, it is nice and warm. AAAhhhhh.....
Live is tough!
Las Jacarandas - Jenni and Talal's home
The view from this apartment is great, overlooking the golf course, and on a good day - Jenni tells me - you can see 'the Rock' = Gibraltar. I told Jenni: this is what we tell people when they visit my parent's town....normally on a good day you can see the Swiss Alps across the lake....
And wow.... there it is..... The Rock!
And the sunsets are amazing....
Early afternoon we drive into Estepona, have lunch on the seaside, and a stroll. Jenni warned me about the menue: it's either ham-cheese-tomato sandwich or cheese-ham-tomato sandwich or tomato-cheese-ham sandwich. So the challenge was to get the sandwich without the ham.... after a couple of goes, they actually got it right....
Mumbai Masala - is that Spanish???
After our little break, we drive to their second home at 'Al Majestic' and have a coffee.... another beautiful apartment with views of the sea.
Just loved these colourful houses.....
I want that clock!!!! Just my kind of life motto......
In the evening we go out for dinner to the local club. We are the only guests... it is off season. Lots of places are shut during off season, as the numbers of visitors and tourists is low and it is not viable for small businesses to open during this time of year.
Also, the shops close for afternoon siesta from 1 - 5 p.m. or so..... (and I thought at my sister's town it was bad for shops having a 1 hour lunch break......), just shows....
What's not to love! Am enjoying it here very very much!
