Trip to Ptuj, Slovenia

We had a lazy day on Tuesday and went to the movies in the evening. We watched: The girl with the dragon tatoo.  Very mesmerizing story....(I never read the books....)

Wednesday (-3C to +5C), we went on another day trip - this time to Ptuj - about 25 km from Lenart (closest village to Ken & Yvonne's place).

Ptuj (German: Pettau) is a city and one of 11 urban municipalities in Slovenia. Traditionally the area was part of the Lower Styria region. It has about 23,000 inhabitants.
Ptuj is the oldest city in Slovenia. There is evidence that the area was settled in the Stone Age.

Ptuj Castle (Slovene: Ptujski grad) is a castle in Ptuj. It is situated on a hill alongside the river Drava overlooking the town, and is a prominent landmark.
The castle was built in the mid-12th century, when it was constructed to defend against the Hungarians. At this time Ptuj was owned by the Archdiocese of Salzburg.

We walked through town and up the hill to the castle and visited the museum inside the castle.  The rooms were freezing cold.... it was a very interesting, but due to the cold ,a very quick visit!!!

 Scary guy....

The wine cellars... Slovenia used to produce an enormeous amount of local wines and store them in huge barrels.... Today, you can sit in them and drink the wine....

Nice restaurant at the river front, where we had lunch....

The old town and castle...

They have very colourful buildings in Slovenia....

People are actually sitting outside in coffeeshops, just with these blankets around them (which are provided by the coffeeshops) - no patio heater... and we are not talking high temperatures here... it is only between 0 and +5C..... in Australia during winter we only sit outdoors in +18C With patio heaters!!!!!

Another beautiful day.....in beautiful Slovenia.... with my beautiful friends....
