We decided to do some cultural activity, ...other than eating.... so we went to the Art Gallery, which is shaped like a fish (its re-design in 2004 was initially a controversial subject, as it is a modern building among some old heritage buildings in the area...)
We started on the 5th floor, with the modern art (which none of us understood nor appreciated...enough said...) and worked our way down. There was African art, Canadian art, and an exhibition of an amazing collection of European art objects (mainly religious artifacts - absolutely amazing stuff!).... from the Italian Renaissance to the mid-1900s. More than 1,000 works of art from the Thomson Collection:
Hercules supporting the heavenly shere
The Abduction of the Sabine Women
The staircase to the 5th floor...
One wing of the museum was donated by a prominent Italian family - amazing woodwork:
And great views:
This is as refined as my art critic is going to get! OK, I will not become an art critic....
