On the road again.... it's a song!

My three day trip:
New York - Pittsburg by plane
Pittsburg -  Aiken by road

Enjoyed a crispy morning in Pittsburg... and then we hit the open road....

The drive from Pittsburg, PA to Aiken, SC takes 8 hours - via West Virginia and North Carolina.  Beautiful countryside - can't get over how green it is here (I must have Dubai desert syndrome). It was raining part of the way.
The State Parks (as they are called here) cover a huge area  - I believe they are much bigger than the National Parks in Oz. The road climbed up the mountains in West Virginia to almost 3000 feet.

North Carolina:

Interesting sights: Lots and lots of big trucks... and ramps for 'runnaway trucks' - not joking....
mobile houses..... good old fashioned buses....and trailers with cars attached....advertising signs Mac Donads of course.... and weird traffic lights....

Michael showed me the damm leading into the Gauley river, where he went for wild water rafting earlier in the year.  Apparently they empty the damm once a year, which is the best time to wild water raft! (maybe next time....).

We took a pitstop at the 'Waldhorn' German Restaurant,Charlotte, NC, for some good old fashioned German food: Spaetzle (did you not watch Masterchef's masterclass??) and Maultaschen (filled pasta pillows) and Laugenbroetchen (like a pretzel) - yummie.

And finally we arrived at Michael's home in Aiken, SC. - Home Sweet Home!
